China Develops New Field Stretcher

China has developed a kind of multi-functional field stretcher that can be used by the army, air force and navy.

Different from the traditional ones, these stretchers can be used as an operating table, a sledge, a hovercraft, a one-man trailer or a trunk in field conditions.

The stretcher was designed by Chen Donggang, a dentist from No. 222 Hospital of the Shenyang Military Area Command.

The stretcher is equipped with wheels and could be pulled by one man. Traditional stretchers are usually manned by two people.

Chen said it could be also unfolded to become an operation table when necessary and can float on water when filled with gas. It can also be hung vertically under a helicopter when carrying the wounded.

The General Logistics Department of the People's Liberation Army has applied the stretcher on a trial basis by military command troops in Shenyang, Chengdu and Lanzhou.
