Xinhua Comments on Jiang's Important Remarks on Role of Communist PartyXinhua News Agency published Monday a special commentator's article on Jiang Zemin's recent remarks on the role of the Communist Party of China (CPC).Jiang, the state president and general secretary of the CPC, said during a recent tour to south and east China that the Party must always meet the requirements for the development of China's advanced productivity, lead the orientation of the development of advanced culture, and represent the fundamental interests of the Chinese people. This is a principle the Party must follow for further development, says the article, entitled The Root for Building the Party, the Base for Ruling, and the Source of Power. The Party prospers, wins the support of the people, and can overcome any difficulty when adhering to this principle. If the Party adheres to this principle, it will never be defeated, it will be cordially supported by the Chinese people of different ethnic groups, and will lead the people from victory to victory, says the article. Ever since the Party was founded, it has been an advanced political party marching ahead of China's social development, and according to the Party Constitution, the CPC is the pioneer of the Chinese working class, the article says. It says that Jiang's remarks are an answer to building the Party, provide a new impetus for the nature, motto and fundamental tasks of the Party, a new development of the Marxist theory on Party building, a new demand for Party organizations at all levels and all Party members and cadres. It urges Party members to seriously study and deeply understand the importance of Jiang's remarks and to strengthen the Party according to the them. Jiang's remarks will also help strengthen and improve the Party in the new century, the article says.
