Zambia Calls for Clean, Transparent COMESA SystemZambian President Frederick Chiluba said Friday that it is extremely important, if the Common Market for Eastern and Southern Africa (COMESA) is to survive with its limited resources, that it must run a clean, transparent, accountable system, observing the rule of law, business ethics, rules and regulations.At the closing meeting of the Fifth COMESA summit Chiluba said that "as we enter the Free Trade Area (FTA), we should be aware of the vices that can work against our cherished goals and advances. corruption, nepotism and money laundering, can be very destructive to our Free Trade Area." The president invited all heads of states or governments of COMESA member countries to attend the extraordinary summit to be held on 31st October, this year, in Lusaka to official kick off the FTA. Mauritius Prime Minister, new COMESA Chairman Navinchandra Ramgoolam said at the closing meeting that "the FTA high on our agenda for quite some time and now within sight, is but one major stride in our way forward." |
