3,000-Year Old Noblemen's Tombs Found in Central China
Chinese archaeologists have found more than 70 ancient tombs which can be dated back to the Western Zhou Dynasty (C.1100-771 B.C.) and the Warring States Period (475- 221 B.C.) in the urban area of Zhengzhou, capital of Henan Province.
An archaeologist commented that the tomb site was used as an ancient graveyard for a noble family in the period. There are a dozen tombs of a noble family with coffins buried in large square pits and 50 tombs of commoners in small simple pits.
The archaeologists also unearthed over 10 historical relics from the tombs, including shell ornaments, bronze weapons and ceremonial articles.
The tombs and relics, the first of their kind in the province, will provide valuable clues for archaeological research on the history and culture of the Western Zhou Dynasty.
