Air China Reshuffles Planes

Air China is restructuring its planes in a bid to solve plane utilization problems and the high cost as a result of too many large planes.

An official with the General Administration of Civil Aviation of China (CAAC) said that Air China has cut part of its cost by selling and leasing out 13 planes last year.

Air China has sold four Boeing 747, leased three airbuses and remodeled one Boeing 747 passenger plane into a freighter. A new Boeing 737 joined Air China this April giving the company a 46 percent share of small planes.

The company plans to sell two more large passenger planes and buy 15 more medium-sized and small planes in the next five years.

China Eastern Airlines is also making efforts to restructure its planes and aims to reduce the percent of large planes from 37 percent to 30 percent.
