Chinese President Meets Special Olympics International Delegation


Chinese President Meets Chairman of the Board of Special Olympics
Chinese President Jiang Zemin met with Special Olympics International (SOI) president Sargent Shriver and his party in Beijing on Friday.

Jiang thanked Shriver and his family for their dedication in promoting sports training and competition for the mentally retarded people in the world.

The Chinese President also expressed his appreciation for SOI's support to China's sports for the mentally retarded.

Jiang said: "It's our responsibility to provide special help for the disabled to ensure that their legal rights and dignity are not harmed."

Shiver said that the Chinese government has made great achievements in protecting the rights of the disabled and promoting sports in China.

The Special Olympics, which was founded in 1968 by Eunice Kennedy Shriver, provides year-round sports training and competition for the mentally retarded in the world.
