China Enhances City Infrastructure, Investment Surpasses 700 Billion in 10 years

At the management work conference on city construction held in Nanjin, Vice Minister Zhao Baojiang of the Ministry of Construction said that during the past ten years, the aggregate investment on city infrastructure added up to 738.49 billion yuan, 10 times that of the previous decade. The past decade was a span of ten years, which was marked by the biggest scale in investment, the most rapid development and the most prominent achievement scored. As Compared to the end of 1990, the per capita road area reached 8.77 square meters, a rise by 46%; the popularity of city water supply hit 97%, rising by 8 percentage points and the city gas supply covered 84%, rising by 42%; The per capita green land area accounted for 6.5 square meters, an increase by 67%.

With the considerable improvement of city infrastructure, the overall functions of a city has been enhanced evidently. Up to now, the problems that have handicapped the urban development such as the difficulties in taking a ride, walking, using water and gas supply, have been effectively improved. At present, China's urban construction is stepping into a new development stage with stress to be laid on enhancing environmental quality. In the near future, along with the increase of the input in urban environment construction, accelerating the construction speed of facilities for the disposable city waste, sewage and green coverage in gardens should be given special attention so as to make the development and environment of the city sustainable.
