Inner Mongolia Begins to Control Three Major Sand Sources

Recently, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region has lost no time in launching the sand-control project in the surrounding areas of Beijing and Tianjin.

According to the State plan for the control of sand sources in the surrounding areas of Beijing and Tianjin, Inner Mongolia will start the work in three key areas this year and, in different areas of the whole region, set up 10 large standardized and specialized sapling and seedling bases. These three areas are all close to Beijing and the nearest one is only 180 km away and is extending southwards at the speed of 1.8 km per year, posing a threat to the ecological safety of the regions of Beijing and Tianjin.

It is reported that the first-stage project construction will last three years and the general task of sand control will cover 1.2 million hectares, and work for the first stage that covers 200,000 hectares will start this year. To ensure the improvement of the deserted grasslands, the State will subsidize 100 yuan for each mu (1 hectares = 15 mu) to build fences and plant grasses and trees around the fences.
