China's Middle School-Run Enterprises Booming

China's middle school-run enterprises earned 126 billion yuan, about 15.2 billion U.S. dollars of total production value and turnover in 1999, according to "China Education News".

Statistics show that about 620,000 middle schools in China have set up their own enterprises, accounting for 91.43 percent of the country's total middle schools.

China has over 680,000 middle school running enterprises. Some 480,000 will receive over 200 million students annually to some factory work.

An official from the Ministry of Education noted that China's middle school-run enterprises have reinforced the link between education and economy.

In China's rural areas, middle school-run enterprises have already become training centers for agro-technicians.

The official also pointed out that developing middle school-run enterprises must develop quality-oriented education. Middle-school run enterprises are trying to establish a series of practical education bases for students.
