Xinjiang Strengthens Investment on Cotton Base Construction
On the basis of completing the biggest base for commodity cotton of China, Xinjiang has decided to further strengthen the investment in base construction so as to create favorable conditions for enhancing the advantages of Xinjiang cotton industry in the great development of western regions.
In a period of less than 10 years, the cotton output of Xinjiang has quickly popped up to over one third of the total cotton output in China, becoming an influential cotton production region in the world. The total investment scale of Xinjiang cotton base construction was 9.914 billion yuan, the development of wasteland suitable for growing cotton reached 4 million mu, the transformation of middle-and-low yield fields top 6 million mu and the cultivation area of cotton has reached 14.5 million mu in Xinjiang.
This year, Xinjiang plans to invest 1.114 billion yuan on cotton base construction bringing Xinjiang's cotton production capacity up to 30 million piculs. Xinjiang can provide commercial cotton of over 1.3 million tons to the society with a total output value topping 20 billion yuan.
