Shenzhen to Become Ideal Place To Live

Shenzhen, in south China's Guangdong Province, will turn the city into an ideal place to live in ten years.

The idea is being raised in the Overall Urban Development Program of Shenzhen City.

According to the program, the city will have an area of 2,020 sq km with a population of 4.3 million by the year of 2010. By 2010, the per capita living space will be raised from 18 sq m to 20 sq m, matching the residential standards in developed countries, and the per capita area of vegetation will be 11 sq m. Eighty-five per cent of discarded solid industrial materials should be treated, 100 per cent of the dangerous industrial wastes, 70 per cent of sewage in urban areas, and 95 per cent of garbage will also be treated.

A complex transportation network has been planned for Shenzhen as well as public utilities and scenic sites.

Wang Ju, vice mayor of Shenzhen, pledged at a press conference that the city would build a modern urban layout to build Shenzhen into a gardening city with advanced and updated facilities by developing high-tech industries and the service sector.
