Website For China's Construction Projects Launched

A website for China's massive construction projects was formally launched on May 18. The website: SinoProjects.com, was jointly developed by the Canadian company AEA International Business Network, the China Construction Industry Association, and the computer center of the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation (MOFTEC).

Officials with the State Development Planning Commission, the Ministry of Construction and MOFTEC, as well as Canadian ambassador to China, Howard Balloch, attended a press conference in Beijing to launch the website.

At present, China has the world's largest construction market, with funds for capital construction surpassing one trillion yuan ( about 120 billion U.S. dollars) annually in recent years, said Wang Xiaoying, director of the Information Exchange Center of the China Construction Industry Association.

For years, Chinese projects have been short of funds, technology, equipment and professionals. Now, by accessing the website, international partners will be able to find opportunities to invest and supply equipment and technology, and professionals will be able to search for jobs in the field.

"The website is a bridge between the two sides," said Henry Wang, CEO of AEA International Business Network Ltd. The company has liaison offices for customers in New York, Toronto, Vancouver, London, Hong Kong, and Beijing. By the end of 1999, China had more than 15,000 websites, and the number is increasing rapidly.
