FM Meets UN Secretary-General's Special Envoy

Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan met Thursday with Carl Bildt, the UN secretary-general's special envoy to the Balkans.

Bildt discussed the situation in the Balkan region, and expressed his appreciation for the positive role of China, a permanent member of the UN Security Council, in the Balkans. Tang said that China is concerned about peace and stability in the Balkans and will continue to safeguard peace and uphold justice.

He added that the Kosovo issue should be resolved in a just and political way and on the basis of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, as well as protecting the legal rights of all the people of various nationalities in that country.
