Book on Taiwan Issue PublishedA senior Chinese researcher said that the interference by the U.S. government over the past decades has been the main reason for the pending Taiwan issue.Tang Zhengrui, a research worker with the Taiwan Affairs Office of China's State Council, made the remark in his book titled " China and the U.S. Playing Chess on the Taiwan Issue" published recently by the Shanghai People's Publishing House. In the book Tang explained that the U.S. government has been attempting to make Taiwan an unsinkable "aircraft carrier" on the western Pacific Ocean and use Taiwan as a "chess piece " to meddle in China's internal affairs and to prevent China from developing and becoming strong. Tang's book focuses on the struggle between the Chinese and U.S. governments on the Taiwan issue from 1966 to 1999. It elaborates the Chinese government's "One China" stance that China is an inalienable part of China, and the government of the People's Republic of China is the sole legal government representing China. The book also records changes in Taiwan policies since Nixon's presidency. |
