China Uses Satellite to Appraise Natural Disasters

The remote sensing digital pictures obtained from the No. 1 Resource satellite launched last year have successfully helped China to appraise the mountain slide disasters in Bomi area of Tibet. This shows China has been able to appraise natural disasters by utilizing picture data obtained from our own satellite.

Chen Zidan, senior engineer of Department of Natural Disasters Remote Sensing of National Remote Sensing Center (NRSCC) said that we used to borrow foreign satellite data when natural disaster happened, it was quite expensive and sometimes hard to obtain data, what's more, the remote sensing data of some western border areas showed nothing. However, after the No.1 Resource satellite has been launched to the space, we can fully monitor the whole territory of our country. With the flood season drawing near, the No.1 Resource satellite will play a bigger role in appraising disasters.
