UN Resolution Helps to Ease Tension between Ethiopia and Eritrea

Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Zhang Qiyue expressed the hope Thursday that the resolution recently passed by the United Nations Security Council will help ease the tension between Ethiopia and Eritrea.

Zhang said this in a regular press conference this afternoon, referring to the No.1298 UN resolution which, passed on May 17, will impose a 12-month arms embargo on both countries.

The embargo will be lifted on condition that the UN Secretary- General hand over a report on peaceful settlement of the conflict between the two countries, it is learnt.

Zhang said that she hoped that the two countries will resolve their problems through peaceful means as soon as possible.
