Last year, there were 800,000 newly found patients of the venereal disease. By the end of last year, such population under the monitoring of the sanitation and anti-epidemic department had reached 6 million, with the annual growth rate of 15 percent.

According to the Vice-minister of Health Yin Dakui, in recent years, people suffering from this disease has increased at a 15percent annual rate and venereal disease has become a serious social and public health problem.

Statistics from relevant departments show that gonorrhea is the most common among the venereal disease patients while the number of people contracted with syphilis increases at the highest rate of 40 percent each year.

The vice-minister said that the fast spread of venereal disease should be attributed to the lack of appropriate regulations, ineffective monitoring and management and weak sex health education.
