Tibet Encourages Foreign Cooperation in Protecting Environment

The Tibet Autonomous Region will expand cooperation with foreign countries and international organizations to improve its ecological environment. A local official said that Tibet has introduced over 20 species of fine pasture strains from abroad over the past decades to update its grassland vegetation and this has played an important role in preventing desertification.

Tibet's afforestation drive and effort to control geological disasters will continue in cooperation with other countries and international organizations, the official said.

From now on until 2050, preferential policies will be granted to those who are willing to invest in planting trees and turning barren land and hills into forests in accordance with a regional government's environmental development program.

As the region is located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau known as the "roof of the world", its ecological and environmental conditions play a significant role in regulating the climate of not only the eastern hemisphere but also the whole world.
