Seoul, Pyongyang Agree to Meet Again Preparing Inter-Korean SummitSeoul and Pyongyang Tuesday agreed to hold their fifth preparatory talks Thursday for the inter-Korean summit scheduled to open in Pyongyang on June 12-14.At Tuesday's expert-level meeting held in the Unification House on the northern part of the truce village of Panmunjom which focused on the summit's protocol and security, delegates from Seoul proposed that a 60-member security team with security-related equipment be allowed to Pyongyang. Both sides have agreed to make decisions on the matters when Seoul's initial team makes a visit to Pyongyang, said South Korean official. The two sides, which have held four preparatory meetings, will meet at 10.a.m local time on the southern side of the truce village for the fifth round of preparatory talks. The last remaining issue that stands in the way of hammering out a deal is the size of the South Korean press corps going to Pyongyang to cover the summit, with Pyongyang insisting that Seoul's proposed number of 80 members be halved. Both sides have reportedly narrowed their differences on the size of the press corps and there is a high possibility that two sides will sign an accord on Thursday. |
