China to Award Human Settlement Environment Prizes

China will set up annual Human Settlement Environment Award through public appraisal from this year on to honor cities, counties, organizations and individuals that have made outstanding contributions to human settlement environment improvement, sources report from the Ministry of Construction.

Outstanding China Human Settlement Environment Award winners will be recommended to United Nations Center for Human Settlement for "UNCHS Human Settlement Award" and "Dubai's International Best Practices to Improve the Living Environment", according to authoritative report.

Since 1992, the Ministry of Construction has conducted three checking-ups and choosing through public appraisal; 347 cities have been singled out as "excellent cities" and 179 as "advanced cities" under a comprehensive environment rectification program.

In light with the spirit of eliminating activities like choosing through public appraisal and citation, the Ministry has set on a decision to combine achievements from comprehensive environment rectification with Human Settlement Environment Award, instead of all redundancy of checking-ups and making selection.
