Yunnan--Most Attractive Tourist Region to Chinese Urbanites

According to a recent national survey on tour consumption tendency, Yunnan Province is the most attractive tourist region to urban Chinese citizens and its capital-Kunming, a tourist city, has the strongest appeal to people.

This conclusion was made on the basis of two surveys on people's tourist consumption intention, which were conducted on the eve of May Day among nearly 7,000 people in 14 cities of China - Beijing, Shanghai, Dalian, Changchun, Harbin, Nanjing, Suzhou, Jinan, Zhengzhou, Wuhan. Guangzhou, Chengdu, Xi'an and Lanzhou by tourism departments concerned in these cities and an information company in Beijing.

The surveys show that urban citizens prefer the south to the north and climbing mountains to sailing up and down the river. As a new major tourist province, Yunnan, with its unique landscape and strong ethnic folk customs, has become the first chosen destination of the people surveyed, second came Beijing and Hainan. When asked about which city they are most eager to go, 11.8 percent of the people chose to go to Kunming while 7.4 percent to Hangzhou and 5.9 percent to Dalian and Qingdao.
