NPC Chairman Meets Overseas Scientists

Chairman of China's National People 's Congress Standing Committee Li Peng started meeting on May 17 morning with Norman Ernest Borlaug, senior consultant to the International Center for Maize and Wheat Improvement (CIMMYT), and Tien-Chich Tso, chairman of the board of the Institute of International Development and Education in Agriculture and Life Science (IDEALS).

Borlaug, a Nobel laureate in 1970, has helped increase notably food production in many developing countries with cereal species he bred.

At press time, the meeting is still going on. Borlaug and Tso are here at the invitation of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST).
