Artists to Sell Works for Tree Donation

Some 70 artists will display their works at Beijing's Baoguo Temple on May 18 to raise money for planting trees over a 666-hectare area in the Chinese capital. The idea for the tree-planting project started with a few artists in Beijing who were concerned about the local environment following the recent sandstorms that blasted the city. One of the organizers of the event is Qinghua University associate professor Li Yan, who is the son of China's late famous painter Li Kuchan. So far, more than 70 works have been contributed by Beijing painters and calligraphers.

The money raised by selling paintings and works of calligraphy will be collected by the China Youth Development Foundation and will be used to plant and maintain the trees.
