Int'l Seminar on Education in West China Held in Guizhou

An international seminar on educational reform and development in China's vast western region was hosted on May 16 in Guiyang, the capital of southwest China's Guizhou Province.

In attendance at the three-day seminar are more than 120 domestic and overseas educational experts, professors and officials from the country's educational research centers, the World Bank, the United Nations and prestigious universities worldwide.

The participants will discuss ways to deepen the reform on China's education and explore methods for improving the developing countries' education in the 21st century.

During the three-day seminar, discussions also will be held on the role of education in economic and social development, the personnel training system, the support to basic education in China 's western area, and ways to further wipe out illiteracy in western China.

The seminar is jointly sponsored by Ministry of Education and the provincial government of Guizhou.
