China Closes Dangerous Factories

The State Administration for Industry and Commerce announced Tuesday it had shut down nearly 130,000 factories that were discovered to be operating without a license or are regarded as unsafe in recent nationwide check-ups.

From April 1 through May 10, the administration, in cooperation with relevant departments, inspected and corrected the errors made by manufacturers, transporters and marketers dealing in explosives, fireworks, boilers and pressure containers, according to an official with the administration.

All unlicensed fireworks manufacturers were closed, while some had their license revoked for safety reasons.
