Macao Chief Executive Leaves for Portugal, FranceEdmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of China's Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), left Macao Tuesday night for an official visit to Portugal and France from May 16 to 25.It is the first official foreign visit of the chief executive, who was sworn into office last December. The trip is expected to strengthen ties between Macao and the European Union. Edmund Ho said that one major task during his trip is to publicize the passport of the Macao SAR in the EU. The chief executive's entourage include Susana Chou, president of the Macao SAR Legislative Council, Francis Tam Pak Yuen, secretary for economy and finance of the SAR government, and 13 business people. Portugal acts as EU rotating presidency in the first half of 2000, and France will take over the presidency in the second half of the year. Next year, the chief executive may visit Brussels where the EU headquarters is located, government sources said.
