China Launches Banking Services on Cable TV

The Bank of China Monday aired detailed information about its services on cable TV, becoming the first bank in the country to experiment with pay-TV access for customers.

Sources from the bank's Beijing headquarters said the new service was jointly developed by the bank's Guangdong branch and the local cable television station in Guangdong province, south China.

Bank customers with satellite TV hook-ups can tune in to the BOC station for international financial information, personal bank account updates, foreign currency exchange rates, and information on transfers from bank accounts and stock market accounts. The bank also plans to offer real-time stock trading via cable TV.

Customers must have accounts at the BOC's Guangdong branch and the Guangdong cable TV station.
