Project Hope On Line

China's "Project Hope" has made its debut on the Internet, appealing for online donations, according to the project founder, the China Youth Development Foundation ( CYDF).

Located at the education website FM365.com is general information on the decade-old charitable program which has helped nearly 2.3 million school dropouts return to school and established more than 7,800 Hope schools.

News about the 1,000 "Hope Stars" -- children selected by the CYDF to receive continuous aid -- is available on the webpage, including their photographs, places of birth, age, schools, grades and tuition fees they need. Online donors can directly select the youngsters whose education they want to support.

In addition to offering financial aid to the students, online donors can pledge to give books and films, and to plant trees.

Donors can check up on the progress of the recipients through the webpage.
