Beijing: Relics Capital of ChinaThe Chinese capital will display its trove of newly-discovered relics during annual World Museum Day, which falls on Thursday.Beijing has two million ancient artifacts resting in 112 museums -- more relics and museums than any other city in China, results of a six-year survey show. Among the items are a 2.25-meter stone gate from the Eastern Han Dynasty (25-220 A.D.) and a 2.2-meter stone statue made more than 1,600 years ago. Both pieces are in the Beijing Museum of Stone Carvings. Museums mushrooming all over Beijing have become both study centers and tourist attractions, drawing more than 30 million visitors annually -- fully one-fourth of all museum patrons nationwide. In addition to some famous, comprehensive spots such as the Palace Museum inside the Forbidden City, many museums specialize on individual categories such as ancient coins and rare stones.
