China, Japan Training Medical Staff from Central, Western Regions

A total of 50 million yen will be donated by the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to a training program for Chinese medical staff jointly launched by China and Japan.

Chinese Vice-Minister of Public Health Peng Yu and Japanese Ambassador to China Sakutaro Tanino attended the opening ceremony for the program on May 15.

The program will concentrate on training doctors and nurses mainly from impoverished areas in China's central and western regions. The first class will be made up of 50 medical personnel from eight provinces including Sichuan, Hunan, Shaanxi, Gansu and Yunnan.
