Photographers to Focus on Beijing this Month

The Beijing Municipal Government has invited 50 photographers from other countries and 20 from China to take part in a photo project designed to present vivid images of the Chinese capital to the outside world.

The municipal government is sponsoring "World Photographers Focusing on Beijing", which runs from May 16 to 23, the organizing committee announced today at a news briefing.

The photographers are charged with capturing the history, scenery and people of Beijing, with special emphasis on 300 spots including historical landmarks, main streets, schools, residential quarters, museums and factories.

A city official said that the activity is expected to expand the influence of the city, and present the daily life of its ten million inhabitants to the outside.

The invited photographers are from 24 countries, including the United States, Canada, Russia and Britain.
