Munich-Chongqing Flight to Bring More European Tourists to China

The newly opened direct flight from German city of Munich to southwest China's Chongqing Municipality will bring more European tourists to China, German LTU airlines managing director Peter Haslebacher has said.

Haslebacher said the air route put into operation Monday has shortened distance between Europe and China as it only took nine hours and 45 minutes for the maiden flight from Munich to Chongqing.

He said half of 7,000 air tickets for 26 flights on this route until October have been booked, showing enthusiasm of Germans and other Europeans toward this mysterious land.

The opening of the Munich-Chongqing route provides the quickest and the most economical way for Europeans to enter China's hinterland, and will bring more European tourists to China, he noted.

Since China became world's fifth biggest tourism destinations in 1996, the country has received annually about 8 million overseas tourists. Last year witnessed a record of 8.43 million foreign travelers.

Shorter voyage and lower costs on the route will make Chongqing another biggest destination for European tourists, Li said.
