CPPCC Chairman Arrives in Vancouver for Friendly Visit

Li Ruihuan, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), arrived in Vancouver from Toronto Wednesday afternoon in his on-going official visit of friendship to Canada.

At the banquet given in his honor by Herb Dhaliwal, Canadian Minister of Fisheries and Oceans, Li said that despite the great distance from each other and differences in political system, history and culture, China and Canada have enjoyed very good relations since they established diplomatic ties 30 years ago.

He also hailed the enhancement of ties achieved particularly in recent years, saying the two sides have seen the expansion of trade and economic cooperation.

He described his visit as part of the efforts to keep the momentum for exchanges of visits by senior leaders of both countries so as to better understanding of each other, further the friendship, expand common ground and promote cooperation.

He also pointed out that Vancouver, as a city that has a largest Chinese community in the country, has played an important role in promoting the Sino-Canadian relationship. He expressed the confidence that Vancouver will be able to made greater contributions to the Sino-Canadian friendship and cooperation in the future.

Vancouver is the last leg of Li's trip to Canada. He arrived in Ottawa Monday to begin his six-day official visit to the country.
