Fundamental Factors for Building China's Silicon Valley: Expert

Talent, a liberal business environment and abundant funding are the three basic factors for China's silicon valley, a senior Chinese economist said Friday.

Wu Jinglian, a veteran researcher at the Development Research Center under the State Council, made the remarks in a speech at China Beijing International High-Tech Industries Week Forum, which finished on May 12.

About ten Chinese cities plan to build special development zones similar to the Silicon Valley in the United States, and the Zhongguancun High-Tech Zone in Beijing is the most promising among them.

Wu said that compared with the Silicon Valley, Zhongguancun needs to do a lot more work even though there are plenty of high- tech professionals working there.

According to Wu, it is an urgent task for the government to create a good environment for those who want to start their own business and obtain needed investment. It is also imperative to strengthen research and theoretical studies.
