China to Have Master of Public Administration DegreesChina will have Master of Public Administration (MPA) degrees in addition to the Master of Business Administration (MBA), according to the International Public Policy and Administration Conference which opened Friday.Approved by the Academic Degrees Committee of the State Council last May, the MPA will have its first group of pursuers this October. Insiders say that China is in great need of administration professionals in both enterprises and government to ensure efficient and coordinated decision-making and management systems. The MPA is a comprehensive branch of learning similar to that of the MBA. It applies the sciences of management, politics, and economics to study the operation of public organizations, especially governments. The MPA program is a major avenue for cultivating professionals specializing in public administration. Sponsored by the Public Administration School of Qinghua University, the two-day conference is being attended by professors from renowned universities both in China and abroad, government officials, and enterprise managers.
