146 Golfers Compete in Macao Open

A total of 146 competitors from around the world are vying in the Macao Open golf Tournament, which was launched Thursday, at the Macao Golf and Country Club.

The Macao Open is the sixth leg of the 2000 Davidoff Tour of Asian Professional Golfers' Association (PGA). It is also the 100th tournament of the Davidoff Tour which was started in Thailand in 1995.

Outstanding golf players participating in the Macao Open include Mark O'Meara and Gerry Norquist of the United States, Kyi Hla Han of Myanmar, Satoshi Oide of Japan, and Yeh Wei-Tze of Chinese Taipei.

The five Chinese golfers coming from the inland areas of China are Zhang Lianwei, Liu Guojie, Wu Xiangbing, Cheng Jun and Liang Wenchong.

All the golfers will continue the preliminary competition on Friday, and the first 65 players in the whole list will enter the final match on May 13 and 14.

The first-place check in the Macao Open is worth US$ 32,300 and the total prize money adds up to US$ 200,000.
