HK Chief Executive Visits Macao SAR

The chief executives of the Hong Kong and Macao special administrative regions (SAR) met in Macao Friday and exchanged views on future cooperation.

Hong Kong SAR Chief Executive Tung Chee Hwa, who arrived in Macao Friday morning, visited the Macao Museum and had lunch with his Macao SAR counterpart Edmund Ho Hau Wah.

Speaking to the media upon his departure at the Hong Kong-Macao Ferry Terminal, Tung said he was glad to see Macao has taken on a new look after its return to the motherland.

He expressed the belief that Macao will surely have a brighter future with the good leadership of the Macao chief executive and the concerted efforts of local residents.

Edmund Ho said that the meeting is helpful for the two SARs to set up a mechanism which promotes closer contact and cooperation.

The two chief executives shared the view that the two sides should strengthen cooperation in economic and cultural aspects in efforts to achieve common development.

This was Tung's first official visit to the Macao SAR since Macao's return to the motherland last December. They had met twice in Hong Kong over the past months.
