Scientists announced on May 11 that China's super hybrid rice genome project was formally launched on May 11. Scientists from Beijing Huada Gene Research Center, Chinese Academy of Sciences and National Hybrid Rice Engineering Technology Research Center will take the lead in decoding the genetic code of hybrid rice within a year in the world.
Success in completing test of 1% of human's sequence of genome has enabled China to carry out large-scale genome sequence detection. Thirty sets of sequence detecting instruments will be put to use in Beijing Huada Gene Research Center, thus helping China raise its gene detecting ability 5 times. The Shuguang full-developed computer with a calculating capability up to over than 100 billion times per second will also be made available at Huada Gene Research Center.
