Senior CPC Official Meets Indonesian GuestsWei Jianxing, a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee, met Thursday with a delegation of the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle (IDPS) headed by its former General Secretary Alexander Litaay. This is not only the first IDPS delegation to visit China, but also the first delegation from any Indonesian party to visit China in years. Wei, also a member of the Secretariat of the CPC Central Committee, hailed the traditional friendship between the two countries, adding that China and Indonesia have both contributed to the unity of people in Asia and Africa and their struggle for national independence and against imperialism and colonialism. Wei noted that bilateral relations have achieved overall development in political, economic, military and cultural fields since the two countries formally resumed diplomatic ties. He also mentioned President Abdurrahman Wahid's successful visit to China last year. It is in the interests of both peoples and for the benefit of peace and stability in the region and the world as a whole that both countries further their friendship and relations of cooperation, he stressed. He added that the Chinese government appreciates Indonesia's correct position on the issues of Taiwan and human rights. Speaking of party-to-party relations, Wei said that the CPC hopes to carry out extensive and in-depth exchanges and cooperation with the IDPS on the basis of principles including independence, absolute equality, mutual respect, and non- interference in each other's internal affairs. Further exchanges and cooperation between the two parties will not only enhance understanding and friendship between both parties and both peoples, but help promote the healthy development of bilateral relations, he added. In reply, Litaay said that IDPS President Megawati Soekarno Putri, also vice-president of Indonesia, actively promotes the friendly exchanges with the CPC. The development of party-to-party relations helps exchange experience on how to run a country, and is conducive to the progress of state-to-state ties, and the peace and stability of the region and the world, he added. The delegation is here at the invitation of the CPC.
