China Tops World in Production of VCD Players
China has become the world's biggest producer of VCD players and the largest potential market for the product.
China's VCD player output rose to 20 million from 20,000 in six years. The annual output of DVD players increased from 50,000 three years ago to over two million now, the newspaper quoted statistics released by the China Electronics Audio and Visual Industry Association.
By the end of 1999, 70 million VCD players and one million DVD players were sold in China, and Chinese-made VCD and DVD players have grabbed the lion's share of the market.
Last year, China exported 5.17 million VCD players and exports of DVD players surpassed domestic sales.
Experts predict that sales of DVD players in China would triple that of 1999.
