China Hopes for Conclusion of Sino-EU WTO Talks

Chinese Vice-Premier Wu Bangguo expressed the hope Thursday that China and the European Union (EU) will strike a deal on China's entry into the World Trade Organization (WTO) during Trade Commissioner of the European Commission Pascal Lamy's visit to China, due to begin on May 15.

Wu made the remark during a meeting with Danish Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen, who reiterated that Denmark has consistently supported China's early entry into the WTO.

Wu and Rasmussen expressed satisfaction with the development of friendship and cooperation between China and Denmark, and said they were confident of the future of this relationship.

Wu also briefed the Danish prime minister on China's economic growth and state-owned enterprise reform, saying that the most difficult period of reform has passed, and China has explored effective ways to restructure its state-owned enterprises.

Subsequently, Wu and Rasmussen attended a reception marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of Sino-Danish diplomatic relations.
