China's Hi-tech Industries Keep Good Growth Momentum

Zheng Xinli, a spokesman of the State Development Planning Commission, said Wednesday at the ongoing Beijing Hi-tech Industries Forum that currently the development situation of China's h-tech industries is good and the government should continue to strengthen support and guidance to the development of high-tech industries.

Zheng said that the government has taken effective measures in three aspects to promote the development of hi-tech industries: First, further increase the investment in hi-tech industries; Second, further deepen the reform of sci-tech economic system; Third, create a favorable macro-environment for the development of hi-tech industries.

According to statistics from related departments, the added value of hi-tech industries in 1999 reached RMB 317.8 billion yuan, accounting for 3.4%of the GNP. The export volume of hi-tech products amounted to US$24.7 billion, up 22% over the year of 1998.
