Chinese Judges Change Military-style Uniform

Four judges at the People's Court of Haidian District of Beijing on May 10 appeared in their new uniform -- black western suits with badges while in court. The judges are the first to change their military-style uniforms characterized with epaulets and caps, and wear judicial robes or western suits with badges.

According to relevant rules, the robes are exclusively for judges at the intermediate people's court and courts of higher levels.

The traditional uniforms were worn by judges since 1984.
