Reception Held to Celebrate Sino-Danish TiesA reception was held at the Great Hall of the People Thursday by the Chinese People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries and the Danish Embassy in Beijing to mark the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Denmark.Wang Guangying, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress, and visiting Prime Minister Poul Nyrup Rasmussen of Denmark attended the reception. Wang said Denmark was among the first group of Western countries to forge diplomatic ties with China, and bilateral relations have witnessed steady progress over the past 50 years, with productive results in many fields. Bilateral trade volume reached a record high of one billion US dollars last year, he added. He expressed the hope that cooperation between small- and medium-sized enterprises, and those in the agricultural and high- tech will be reinforced. He also voiced the conviction that Prime Minister Rasmussen's current visit will turn a new page in bilateral relationship. Rasmussen said that today is a special day in relations between Denmark and China. With the deepening of this relationship, the people of the two countries will have more opportunities to deepen mutual understanding and reinforce cooperation, he noted, expressing the hope that both sides will join hands to work for a lasting and solid relationship.
