Canada to Send Trade Mission to China in November

Canadian Prime Minister Jean Chretien is to lead a trade mission which will visit China from November 18 to 26, his cabinet announced Wednesday.

Premiers of Canada's ten provinces, International Trade Minister Pierre Pettigrew, and Secretary of State for Asia Pacific Dave Chan will accompany Chretien on the mission, along with business leaders and university officials, the cabinet office said in a statement.

The visit is to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Canada and China.

"Our two countries have built a strong and enduring relationship over the past 30 years that goes far beyond business links," Chretien said in the statement.

China is Canada's third most important trading partner, with Canadian exports to China last year totaling 3.69 million Canadian dollars, or US$2.47 million, according to Canadian government figures.

The delegation is to visit Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong.
