China to Promote Construction of College Technology Parks

China will continue to promote the construction of college technology parks to speed up high-tech development, said Wei Yu, vice minister of Ministry of Education (MOE) at the Forum of Presidents of World Prestigious Universities held in Beijing on May 9.

Since 1983 when Southeast University, Huazhong University of Science and Technology, Northeastern University respectively set up their own high-tech parks, China's college technology parks have developed very rapidly. Nowadays, Qinghua University, Beijing University, Shanghai Jiaotong University technology parks and 12 others, 15 in all, have been listed as state-level pilot high-tech parks by the MOE and Ministry of Science and Technology (MST).

Wei said that by the end of this year, the MOE and MST will give an appraisal to these 15 pilot parks and a national college high-tech park conference will be held to help the college high-tech parks develop to a new stage.
