Police in southwest China's Yunnan Province seized 1,200 grams of heroin on board a mini bus heading for Lincang, a border city in Yunnan, on Tuesday.
"We have uncovered 16 heroin trafficking cases and confiscated 10 kilograms of heroin during the May Day holiday period," said a local police official Wednesday.
Yunnan has a 4,000-kilometer-long border with Myanmar, Viet Nam and Laos. The number of visitors to border areas increased in the first week of May, and some people hid heroin in paper boxes, the soles of shoes, and private parts of the body.
A raid on May 3 in the Xishuangbanna Dai Autonomous Prefecture resulted in confiscation of 36,000 grams of opium. And police blocked the way of two suspects at a border checkpoint on May 8 and seized 3,900 grams of heroin from the two cases they were carrying.
