Yugoslavia, Iraq Denounce Hegemonism in International Affairs

It is uncivilized and unacceptable to use force, pressure and sanctions in handling the contemporary world affairs.

Yugoslav Foreign Minister Zivadin Jovanovic and his visiting Iraqi counterpart Mohammed Said Al-Sahaf shared the above viewpoint at a joint press conference Tuesday following their talks on bilateral relations and international issues.

Jovanovic noted that both Yugoslavia and Iraq hold that the west's invasion of their countries seriously violated international norms, the U.N. Charter and threatened the world peace and stability, that deserve the most severe condemnation. Yugoslavia and Iraq have long been subjugated to sanctions and were bombed time and again by the west. In particular, Yugoslavia was rampantly bombarded for 78 days last year by U.S.-led NATO forces.

Jovanovic stressed that to handle the international relations should follow such principles as mutual respect of national sovereignty and territorial integrity, non-intervention and equality regardless the size or economic power of each country.

He also urged the equality-loving people of all countries to unite as one to oppose hegemonism and neo-colonialism.

On his part, the Iraqi minister warned that some neo-Nazi forces are posing threat to the world peace and stability at the time when the world is marking the 55th anniversary of the triumph of the anti-fascist war.

He also expressed optimism about the possibility to further develop relations between the two countries.
