Fresh fighting between the Sierra Leonean government army and rebels has broken out in the town of Masiaka, which is about 56 kilometers from Freetown, said a report reaching on Tuesday.
Masiaka, a town that controls the highway to the capital, had fallen to the hands of the rebels following the fighting, the report said.
The report quoted witnesses among thousands of civilians fleeing towards the capital as saying that the government forces seemingly did not have sufficient weapons.
"The fighting is still going on and that is why you see an exodus of people now moving towards Freetown," according to a military personnel from the government forces.
