CPPCC Chairman Meets Canadian Senate Speaker
Li conveyed to Molgat cordial greeting from Li Peng, Chairman of the Standing Committee of the Chinese National People's Congress (NPC). He hailed the overall development of the Sino-Canadian relations for the past three decades in politics, economy, trade, science and technology, education, justice and military. Li said China is fully confident that the bilateral ties will have brighter prospects so long as the two countries stand firm on their common interests. Li also made an introduction of the CPPCC, saying its first and foremost function is to conduct wide-range political consultations before a decision of vital interest is made. Moldgat expressed warm welcome to the visit by Li Ruihuan in the capacity as the CPPCC Chairman, saying Canada thinks highly of the development of cooperative ties with China in economy, culture, as well as politics. Canada is looking forward to having more exchanges between senior officials of the two countries, so as to further enhance bilateral ties, he noted. Moldgat expressed appreciation of the introduction of the CPPCC by its Chairman Li Ruihuan, saying the Canadian Senate pays great attention to the friendly exchanges and cooperation with both NPC and CPPCC. Li Ruihuan arrived here Monday to begin his six-day official visit of friendship to Canada. This is the first visit by the CPPCC National Committee chairman and also the first leg of Li's ongoing four-nation visit of America. The three other countries are Venezuela, Trinidad and Tobago, and Peru.
